Adults refer to animals or humans who have completed their developmental stage. Adult is a term employed in relation to human beings to refer to social and legal concepts. As opposed to a "non-adult" or "minor" legally adult is at the point of majority and is therefore considered independent, self-sufficient, and dependable. Also known as "majors", they can also be considered to be at the age of majority. The age at which a child becomes an adult legally is 18, however, the definition of legal maturity can be different depending upon the nation or legal system as well as their psychological state.

When it comes to the life span of human beings, adulthood refers to the point in which the person attains full intellectual and physical maturation. The age of adulthood typically begins with the age of 21. Mid-life, beginning around 40 years old and is followed by the onset of the age of 60 years old. Adulthood is divided into three stages beginning with young adulthood (18-mid-30s) between mid-30s and the mid-60s and the final stage of adulthood, mid-60s to end of life. At the point we are in the age of early adulthood (20 to mid-40s) our physical growth has been completed, however the size and weight of our bodies may increase slightly. In the early years of adulthood, we attain the peak of our physical ability.
